The Music From China Youth Orchestra

From its beginnings in 2004 as a summer Chinese music camp, the Music From China Youth Orchestra has blossomed into an active, vibrant performing ensemble.

Under the baton of Wang Guowei – former concert master of the Shanghai Traditional Orchestra – youngsters enjoy the discipline, fun, friendships and artistic accomplishment that come from our program of regular rehearsals and concert dates. They are also forming the kind of lifelong personal connection to Chinese culture that only music can offer. In the process they are becoming part of Chinese music’s future.

Our concerts take place at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, New York University, Middlebury College in Vermont, and the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., as well as community venues in the Tri-State area.

The youngsters have also gone on tour to Shanghai and Taiwan, where they played with the top local youth orchestras.
