The Long Wind Quartet, comprised of erhu, pipa, flute and piano, uses exciting blending of timbres of traditional and Western instruments to interpret Chinese music steeped in regional colors and a range of contemporary work. The quartet performs arrangements and compositions by Wang Guowei inspired by music from the southern Jiangnan region, the Pamir Mountains of Xinjiang, classical poetry and other themes of Chinese life and culture.

This block party is a celebration of the diverse ethnic communities of the Lower East Side, embracing Jewish, Chinese and Puerto Rican neighbors. The Festival features performances of klezma, cantorial, Chinese, bomba and plena music; community arts and crafts; and, of course, egg rolls, egg creams and empanadas. These folk arts, juxtaposed one next to the other, illustrate cultural commonalities while preserving the distinctive voices of each community.

Music From China Youth Orchestra is the guest of Percussion People which celebrates its 10th year Off Broadway at the historic Players Theatre in the heart of Greenwich Village. This interactive family concert takes the audience on a journey through China with musical performance by young musicians playing Chinese instruments supported by percussion instruments such as drums, gongs and cymbals. Some special sounding percussion instruments even tell the tale of a Menacing Tiger – so beware! This family concert includes an instrument building workshop prior to the performance where audience members not only enjoy the music but help to create it.
